September is Series Month! 2

If any month in 2012 was worth jotting down on your calendar for settling down in front of the TV, it’s September!

I’m nuts about series – so I follow stacks. Here’s my list of series that are introducing their new seasons during September 2012 that are worth watching. Even added a few for the ladies, compliments of the girlfriend!

In no particular order, here’s the mammoth list. Good-bye social life.

Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy, aka SAMCRO, is a motorcycle gang that operates both illegal and legal businesses in the small town of Charming. They combine gun-running and a garage, plus involvement in porn film. Clay, the president, likes it old school and violent; while Jax, his stepson and the club’s VP, has thoughts about changing the way things are, based on his dead father’s journal. Their conflict has effects on both the club and their personal relationships.

Revenge

Centers on a young woman who is welcomed into a community filled with people who don’t know she’s only there to exact revenge on those who had destroyed her family.

Modern Family

This mockumentary explores the many different types of a modern family through the stories of a gay couple, comprised of Mitchell and Cameron, and their daughter Lily, a straight couple, comprised of Phil and Claire, and their three kids, Haley, Alex, and Luke, and a multi-ethnic couple, which is comprised of Jay and Gloria, and her son Manny.

Homeland

When Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody, who had been missing in action, gets a hero’s welcome upon his return home following eight years in enemy captivity in Iraq, brilliant-but-volatile CIA agent Carrie Mathison doesn’t buy his story. She thinks Brody has turned, is now working for al-Qaida and may be connected to a terror plot to be carried out on American soil. She then engages him in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that has America’s national security at stake. But Carrie’s questionable investigation methods land her in hot water with Saul Berenson, her longtime mentor in the CIA, who has gone to bat for her more than once but may now be alienated by her current investigation.

Hawaii Five-0

After his father is murdered, Lieutenant Commander Steven J. McGarrett returns home to Oahu in order to catch the killer. The governor offers him the opportunity to run a new task force where he is able to call the shots. Steve brings together his own team and is given full backing from the governor.

Glee

A high-school Spanish teacher becomes the director of the school’s Glee club, hoping to restore it to its former glory.

Downton Abbey

The Crawleys have been the Earls of Grantham since 1772. In the drawing rooms and library and beautiful bedrooms, with their tall windows looking across the park, lives the family, but below stairs are other residents, the servants, as fiercely possessive of their ranks as anyone above. Some of them are loyal to the family and are committed to Downton as a way of life, others are moving through, on the look out for new opportunities or love or just adventure. The difference being that they know so many of the secrets of the family, while the family knows so few of theirs…

Dexter

Based on Jeff Lindsay’s novels “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” and “Dearly Devoted Dexter”, this crime thriller follows Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood spatter expert for the Miami Metro Police Department. Thanks to a code instilled in him by his foster father, Harry, he hunts down people who have escaped justice and makes sure they don’t get away with a crime again.

Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire is a period drama focusing on Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (based on the historical Enoch L. Johnson), a political figure who rose to prominence and controlled Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition period of the 1920s and 1930s. Nucky interacts with several historical figures in both his personal and political life, including mobsters, politicians, government agents, and the common folk who look up to him. The federal government also takes an interest in the bootlegging and other illegal activities in the area, sending agents to investigate possible mob connections but also looking at Nucky’s lifestyle—expensive and lavish for a county political figure.
